White House pretends to stop gathering info on dissenting citizens

By Rossputin on Aug 18, 2009

In a post on the White House blog on Monday evening, the Obama Administration says they are shutting down the flag@whitehouse.gov web site at which they had encouraged to snitch on other citizens who were not agreeing with the White House’s talking points (lies) about health care “reform”.

However, there is much less to the announcement than it seems and the Administration does not seem to have been fazed by accurate complaints that the information gathering done by their snitch program is possibly illegal and certainly unseemly, smacking of tactics used by most of history’s worst dictators (link added by Norm).

Although most of the furor about the White House’s tactics has been about the “snitch” e-mail, the White House blogger does not address the topic until the penultimate paragraph of his blog note, where he says this:

To better understand what new misinformation is bubbling up online or in other venues, we want your suggestions about topics to address through the Reality Check site. To consolidate the process, the email address set up last week for this same purpose is now closed and all feedback should be sent through: http://www.whitehouse.gov/realitycheck/contact

Allow me to translate: “We’re going to try to defuse the outcry over our tyrant-like behavior by closing down an e-mail address but we will allow and continue to encourage people to send us the same information through a form on a web page instead.”

There’s also the issue of the White House getting e-mail lists from outside groups and sending mass e-mails to people who never signed up to receive Obama propaganda. The Administration is basically saying that people can click on an “unsubscribe” link if they don’t want the information but that lots of people “appreciate” being lied to about what the government is trying to do to them. (OK, he didn’t word it exactly like that but that’s what it meant…)
