In addition to communicating with the local Air Traffic Control facility, all aircraft in the Persian Gulf AOR are required to give the Iranian Air Defense Radar (military) a ten minute 'heads up' if they will be transiting Iranian airspace. This is a common procedure for commercial aircraft and involves giving them your call sign, transponder code, type aircraft, and points of origin and destination. I just flew with a guy who overheard this conversation on the VHF Guard (emergency) frequency 121.5 MHz while flying from Europe to Dubai. It's too good not to pass along. |
The conversation went something like this... |
"Iranian Air Defense Radar: 'Unknown aircraft you are in Iranian airspace. Identify yourself.' |
Aircraft: 'This is a United States aircraft. I am in Iraqi airspace.' |
Air Defense Radar: 'You are in Iranian airspace. If you do not depart our airspace we will launch interceptor aircraft!' |
Aircraft: 'This is a United States Marine Corps FA-18 fighter. Send 'em up, I'll wait!' |
Air Defense Radar: (no response .. total silence) |

That sounds just about RIGHT... LOONS under desks when Challanged!!! Seems like the new OBLSHBLAH Air control apparatus...
WOW, I just got hard!
Amazing how aroused you people get over war, bombs, blood. Are your lives so futile that you have to obsess over those things? Don't answer because I already know it.
Some of us are simply amused over the unanswered threats of the opposition when the challenges of the moment were placed in a position of 'when-push-comes-to-shove' you don't have the gonads to follow through with your aforementioned threats.
Then there are others whose imagination runs wild and injects some new found notion that those of us who chuckle over these amusing musings do not have any sense of humor.
We, on the other hand, have to have the last laugh at people who identify themselves as to their real identity.
bigwennie seems to have a very bad case of little man attitude. Probable never served his country in an honorable way because he could not pass the UA test. Too much time in liberal schools. Cut history class instead of home economics.
Love the transmissions Norman. Just like a raghead to go quiet, runtail and hide when the fight might be fair...much like little weenie there. What's that old adage...a patriot runs toward the gunfire, a coward waves the white flag. French, I think.
