Driver hits child on bike, draws gunfire from onlooker
By Bethany Barnes
A
concerned neighbor fired multiple rounds at an erratic driver who struck a
12-year-old boy riding a bike late Friday, according to Metro Police.
The
commotion took place around 9 p.m. in the 1600 block of Joyful Street, near
Lake Mead Boulevard and Pecos Road.
The
driver hit the boy, started to drive off and then turned around, said Lt. Roger
Price.
At
that point, a neighbor who feared for the safety of the injured boy and other
neighborhood children fired multiple gunshots, but did not strike anyone, Price
said.
The
child sustained nonlife-threatening injuries and was taken to University
Medical Center, Price said.
Price
said the driver had been detained but he did not know about the armed neighbor.
Metro
is investigating the incident, he said.
