Texas Hold 'em ...by the you know what!

The following from FOX News
Texas bill would block police from enforcing new federal gun laws

Under a measure advancing in the Texas Capitol, local police officers could be convicted of a crime for enforcing any new federal gun control laws.
Rep. Steve Toth, a newly elected Republican from the Woodlands, said his proposal would prevent officers from carrying out any future federal orders to confiscate assault rifles and ammunition magazines.
"There's a federal law, there's a 30-round magazine right in front of you - what do I do?" Toth said in an interview. The measure known as the Firearm Protection Act "answers that question in spades," he said. It moved Tuesday to the House Committee on Federalism.
President Barack Obama has proposed federal laws banning such weapons, but no such laws currently exist.
Toth's proposal would create a Class A misdemeanor for police officers enforcing any new federal gun regulations. It also would establish cause for the state attorney general to sue anyone who seeks to enforce new federal gun regulations. It is one of several states-rights measures being offered by conservative state lawmakers nationwide in response to federal gun control proposals.
Courts have long upheld the federal government's right to enact new laws, which generally supersede state law. Asked how legal precedent for the supremacy of federal law would affect enforcement of his bill, Toth said he expects a legal challenge.
"It may end up in the Supreme Court," he said.
Several recently elected lawmakers gathered at a news conference Tuesday with Toth and Richard Mack, a former Arizona sheriff who successfully contested implementation of certain provisions of the Brady gun laws in the 1990s.
"The federal government is not our boss," Mack said. "If there's any place that that's applicable and true, it's the state of Texas."
Referring to Greg Abbott, the attorney general who helped draft the bill, Mack added: "And we've got a great attorney."
Rep. Jodie Laubenberg, R-Collin County and the most senior lawmaker who stood in support of the proposal, said it could become law "if it's not demagogued as an anti-Obama bill."
"This new group of freshman coming in, they're pretty bold," said Laubenberg, who is in her sixth term. "Pretty dynamic. Not just going to sit and let things happen."
Abbott's office confirmed its role in crafting the legislation but distanced itself from the criminal penalties it contains.
"The attorney general does not support a law that would provide any criminal penalties for police officers," said Daniel Hodge, Abbott's top assistant.

How do I qualify? ...a must see video! Are you a giver or a taker?

At some point the system will be so overwhelmed that one or the other, and probably both, will reach critical mass...and we're not talking nuclear!  We're talking about the givers and the takers...and the givers are not giving out of their own generosity.  The takers on the other hand, are led to believe that the faucet will never run dry.  One of the commentators on the original website says the following (regarding the video below):
"This guy is dumb. The top ten searches would change weekly, daily or even every hour. This is the kind of video that sparks unintelligent voters into a frenzy of anger. He completely disregards logic to skew your views from the middle. He is a dumby."
Obviously Gary, the author of the above quote, is a taker.  He believes that the faucet will never run dry by attempting to downplay the authenticity of the video's narrator.  Everything in the video can be researched and found to be factual but Gary pulls an Alinskyism (the opposite of what he's unwilling to admit); Gary, you see, is the unintelligent voter...and he's beginning to get angry!  And rather than refer to facts to support his logic, he gets into name calling right from the beginning all the way to the end ("dumb" and "dumby").  Well enough about Gary, its obvious that his views are permanently skewed!
Who will revolt first? (Note: See Is Greece trying to warn us videos below) Will the givers (taxpayers) finally say, "We're not paying another red dirt cent!" and the takers, "Where's my free stuff?"  The faucet can no longer sustain the pressure and the pipe is about to burst.   And it will burst the minute there are more takers than givers.  But then again, that is by design.  The politic elite have intentionally made it so that when the country can no longer pay it's obligations that it will collapse and then restructured into one world government controlled by the United Nations...the most corrupt organization ever designed by man!  And when that happens you can kiss your red, white, and blue banner of freedom goodbye!
How did we get here?  To begin with both groups, the giver voters and the taker voters are, as Gary says, "Unintelligent."  I say they're all stupid...else how do you explain how we got here.  We got here because both groups voted for the crooks that make up our laws and neither group refuses to admit it.  Instead they get into the blame game; the Democrats did it, the Republicans did it.  Doesn't anyone out there no how to clean house?  Get rid of the bunch!  They're all a bunch of crooks!  The biggest amongst them is Barack Obama (now don't tell me that you didn't know he ran up the nations debt more than all his predecessors combined) and he gets re-elected.  Now is that unintelligent or just plain stupid?  Welcome to the home of the enslaved!  ~ Norman E. Hooben

Frequent visitors to this site probably noted that from time to time I place the following quote after some of the commentary.  Amazingly not one person has ever commented either positively or negatively about Cicero's very wise observation.  We all cannot be that naive in that we don't recognize the enemy within.  But we are!  Cicero was right.  The enemy within will speak in accents familiar to his victims and the victims all voted for Barack Obama!
“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies in the heart of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear.  The traitor is the plague…” ~ Marcus Tullius Cicero, speech to the Roman Senate.

If more kids knew these stories...

If more kids knew these stories of challenge and courage, we might be a better nation than the one we currently live in, where kids are encouraged to admire tainted sports figures like Lance Armstrong and Tiger Woods, or callow celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Lindsay Lohan.

Thoughts on Presidents’ Day
by Jaime O'Neill

Abraham Lincoln was among my earliest heroes as a kid. I grew up in Illinois, a state that inculcated a love of the 16th president from the first days of school. My hometown was the site of one of the most famous of his pre-presidential debates with Stephen Douglas, and I often ate an ice cream cone at the little soda shop located just a few feet from where Lincoln stood during that long ago-exchange of rhetoric. So imbued was I with regard for Lincoln that when I first was told, on the playground at school, about how men and women came together to make babies, my first thought was, “Oh, that’s impossible; Abe Lincoln would never do that!"
Then and now, I knew I never could be so great a man as Lincoln. I was a shy and skinny kid, with innumerable self-doubts and insecurities. Still, though I knew early that I had little chance of turning out to be another Lincoln, I figured I would turn out better than some of the other, lesser-known presidents, though I had not a figment of a reason for such an easy assumption.

I surely thought I’d become a better man than James K. Polk, or the doomed William Henry Harrison, who died a mere month after taking office, speaking too long at his own inaugural, hatless in bad weather, and thus contracting the illness that ended any hopes he had to become a great leader.
Presidents were always on my mind. If you ran in one direction, the streets in my town were named after trees. Run in the other direction, and the streets were named for presidents, many of them mostly forgotten by most Americans in the generations that followed mine, when the memory of those men was chipped away from school curricula to make room for new facets of our national history. But for boys like me, those past presidents served as role models.
My sister still lives on McKinley Street, named for one of those dead presidents, shot down at the beginning of the 20th century in a pattern that has punctuated our history. James Garfield was another such victim of a crazy person with a gun, an assassin who had lived for a time in the very town where I was born and spent my childhood dreaming of men from times gone by.
I recently read a book about Garfield and his assassin called The Destiny of the Republic, written by Candice Millard. I read the book not out of any particular interest in James Garfield or his murderer, but because I’d liked her previous book in which she retold the tale of Theodore Roosevelt’s post-presidential adventures on the Amazon River and its tributaries, a trip that almost killed him.
The man who shot Garfield was named Charles Guiteau. Most history texts pass over him with the description “disappointed office seeker,” but the story is richer than that. Guiteau lived most of his life in a fog of delusion. He shot Garfield with a .44 caliber pistol in the belief that he was saving the Republic. You don’t have to spend much time online these days to find men posting similarly delusional ideas about themselves and making threats against our president.
In addition to keeping me turning pages, Ms. Millard’s book also informed me that President James Garfield was, like a couple of other assassinated U.S. leaders, a man worthy of admiration. Like Lincoln, Garfield was a deeply moral man, a crusader for the rights of the newly emancipated slaves, a loving father and husband, a man of conviction, principle and unwavering decency. Like Lincoln, he rose to the heights out of abject poverty.
If more kids knew these stories of challenge and courage, we might be a better nation than the one we currently live in, where kids are encouraged to admire tainted sports figures like Lance Armstrong and Tiger Woods, or callow celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Lindsay Lohan.
Few of us are destined to achieve the greatness of Lincoln. Few of us are as good, as brave, and even as thoughtful of other people as the lesser-known James Garfield. But it’s important we remember people like them, not just out of respect for what they did, but for the model they offer of what any of us might aspire to become.

Mexico wants to know who has the guns... What !!! Did you say, "Mexico"? You're kidding, right?

H-T to Pat Dollard ...where I left a comment.

From The Blaze
Why Is Mexico Asking the U.S. Senate for a Registry of U.S. Gun Owners?
Mexican lawmakers will ask the U.S. Senate to create a registry of all commercialized firearms in border states, which includes California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. Mexico says it will make it easier to trace guns used in violent attacks.
The measure was reportedly approved on January 9 by Mexico’s Permanent Commission, a government entity that meets when Mexico’s Senate and the Chamber of Deputies is in recess. Gun owners in Arizona are calling the proposal “foolish” and an “invasion of privacy.”

A number of the gun owners interviewed by KPHO-TV also referenced the Obama administration’s disastrous gun-running operation known as “Fast and Furious.”
The operation, conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), allowed illegal straw buyers to walk across the border with nearly 2,000 firearms, including semi-automatic rifles. The weapons ultimately ended up in the hands of Mexican drug cartel members and were used in a number of crimes, including murders and kidnappings.
Further, a gun from Fast and Furious was found at the murder scene of U.S. Border Agent Brian Terry in December of 2010.
Democrats in Congress have been calling for a ban on semi-automatic rifles and universal background checks for all firearms sales, some even calling for a national gun registry. Further, Democrats in Missouri and California have proposed bills that would result in the possible confiscation of semi-automatic rifles.
TheBlaze has reached out to several members of the U.S. Senate and will update this story as new information becomes available.
