YARMOUTH PORT - Yarmouth police are investigating a fire that destroyed part of the Bass Hole Boardwalk Saturday night. According to a Yarmouth police release, officers responded to the boardwalk at Gray's Beach in Yarmouth Port twice Saturday night for fires.
The first fire was called in at 10 p.m. K9 Officer Michael Kramer responded and found a small camp fire on the boardwalk. The second fire was called in just before 11 a.m. Officers Mary Gibney and Connor Burnham arrived to find a part of the right side of the boardwalk and the entire patio and benches fully engulfed in flames, the release said.Yarmouth firefighters arrived and knocked down the fire. The damage to the boardwalk is estimated at $15,000.
Officers Gibney and Burnham searched the area, but were unable to find any witnesses. Detective Eric Nuss wall called to the scene and is conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident.
