If my guess is right, Holder is guilty

Just as in so many other guess-right situations the chances are Eric Holder is guilty as sin regarding the  so-called 'Fast & Furious' gun running scheme...and I'd probably be guessing right again that his partner in crime, Barack Husein Obama, was deeply involved.  But guess what... just as Bill Clinton went unpunished for his crimes, the Obama-Holder duo will get off scott free for there's not any intestinal fortitude in either house of congress that has the gumption to do the right thing...arrest the sob's and throw away the key! ~ Norman E. 'Fast & Furious' gets hotter for Holder

By MICHAEL A. WALSH

Don't look now, but the real action in Washington this week isn't the parti san wrangling over the debt ceiling but something -- literally -- even more incendiary: Operation Fast and Furious, which seems about to explode right in the face of Attorney General Eric Holder -- and maybe other administration officials, too.

Also known as Project Gunrunner, the Arizona-based operation was supposed to be a sting, under which the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, which is part of the Justice Department, allowed "straw purchasers" to transfer weapons from gun shops in Arizona to Mexican drug cartels to trace and halt crossborder arms-trafficking.

That's the official version, anyway -- but it's crumbling, fast.

The ATF's acting director, Kenneth Melson, has been singing like a canary to congressional investigators as he pushes back against administration pressure for him to resign and take the fall for something that, at the very least, had to include the US Attorney's Office, the FBI, the Drug Enforcement Administration and possibly the Homeland Security Department.

In a letter to Holder released yesterday, Rep. Daryl Issa and Sen. Chuck Grassley accused the Justice Department of blocking their investigation into the burgeoning scandal (which has resulted in the deaths of at least two American agents and countless Mexican civilians), muzzling the ATF and involving other federal agencies, including the FBI and the DEA, in funding the crackpot scheme.

"The evidence we have gathered raises the disturbing possibility that the Justice Department not only allowed criminals to smuggle weapons, but that taxpayer dollars from other agencies may have financed those engaging in such activities," they wrote.

"It is one thing to argue that the ends justify the means in an attempt to defend a policy that puts building a big case ahead of stopping known criminals from getting guns. Yet it is a much more serious matter to conceal from Congress the possible involvement of other agencies in identifying and maybe even working with the same criminals that Operation Fast and Furious was trying to identify."

That's the key to this mess -- and the reason that Operation Fast and Furious might turn out to be the biggest Washington scandal since Iran-Contra.
As Issa and Grassley note in their letter, had the other agencies shared information -- theoretically the goal of the post-9/11 revamp of the intelligence and law-enforcement agencies -- "then ATF might have known that gun trafficking 'higher-ups' had already been identified."

So if the identities of the Mexican criminals were known to the feds, what was the point of Project Gunrunner -- and why is Holder so desperately trying to stonewall by withholding hundreds of documents from Congress?
Law-abiding gun owners and dealers think they already know. With the Obama administration wedded to the fiction that 90 percent of the guns Mexican cartels use originate here -- they don't -- many suspect that "Fast and Furious" was a backdoor attempt to smear domestic gun aficionados as part of its stealth efforts on gun control by executive fiat.

"I just want you to know that we're working on it," Obama was quoted as saying to gun-control advocate Sarah Brady in March. "We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar."

Unfortunately for the administration, this one's out in the open now.
Melson testified behind closed doors on July 4, but the country needs to hear him speak -- loudly and publicly. "Let me be clear," Issa wrote to Melson in April, "we are not conducting a concurrent investigation with the Department of Justice, but rather an independent investigation of the Department of Justice."

Exactly.  Because this one's not just a domestic issue.  A Mexican senator, Rene Arce Islas, told Fox News that he believes whoever is responsible for the monumental, lethal cock-up should be tried not only in America but in Mexico, too.

That's not going to happen, of course. Even if any prominent American officials are implicated, there is zero chance they'd have to face Mexican justice.

But Issa's charge that Holder & Co. are obstructing a congressional investigation is serious. Not even the Justice Department is above the law.

The best way to disinfect the putrid mess that is Operation Fast and Furious is to expose it to sunlight. Let's hear what the attorney general and others have to say in open hearings.

Because somebody's got some "splainin' " to do -- fast, before the American people get furious.

You can take action regarding this matter below:
Fire Attorney General Eric Holder

Wayne LaPierre
Dear Fellow American:
I've just returned from the border between the United States and Mexico and I've never witnessed anything like the stinking, rotten level of murder, corruption, cover-up, and conspiracy confronting us today.
This conspiracy ignited two years ago when U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder claimed that your Second Amendment rights are to blame for the drug crimes and killings in Mexico.
Holder and other top-level Obama Administration figures -- even the President himself -- claimed that 90% of the guns used by violent drug cartels were coming from American gun dealers.
In short, they blamed our Second Amendment rights for the violence of the Mexican drug cartels.
But leaked U.S. State Department cables have exposed this as a bald-faced LIE.
These Obama Administration cables proved beyond a shadow of a doubt what the Mexican government already knew: That the drug cartels were getting guns -- along with fully-automatic weapons, grenade launchers, anti-personnel mines and other military hardware -- through Central America, NOT THE U.S.
These leaked cables blew a hole in the Obama Administration's grand strategy to use Mexican drug cartel crime as an excuse to advance their gun control agenda, shut down law-abiding gun stores and rip the Second Amendment right out of our Bill of Rights.
While these leaked cables exposed the lies propping up Obama's gun control agenda, administration officials at the highest levels pushed a strategy to fit their gun control aims.
In a display of corruption and arrogance that's shocking even for this Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) launched Operation "Fast and Furious" -- an illegal pipeline for shipping guns into Mexico.
With our government's full knowledge and complicity, BATFE higher-ups ordered firearms dealers to sell these guns illegally to straw purchasers. And it wasn't just a few guns... It was over two thousand!!!
According to just emerging reports, BATFE officials actively supervised the commission of felony violations by merely monitoring this criminal activity instead of enforcing the law and blocking the sales.
At the time, BATFE agents protested the insanity of Operation Fast and Furious, and the sheer stupidity of letting thousands of illegally purchased guns just walk over the border into the hands of criminals.
But BATFE supervisors pushed back saying, "If you want to make an omelet, you have to break some eggs."
One of those "eggs" broke on the night of December 14, 2010.
That night, 40-year old Border Patrol agent Brian Terry was in a remote Arizona canyon with a six-member tactical team that encountered a group of armed Mexican illegals.
Sources said that the "illegal entrants" were in Arizona to rob cartel drug mules and other illegals. In the initial skirmish, the Border Patrol agents fired low-velocity shotgun beanbag rounds and were met with 7.62x39mm return fire.
Officer Terry died in the exchange. And when the bandits fled, they left behind two AK-style rifles that were traced to sales made under the Fast and Furious operation.
The ugly truth of this conspiracy is the hardest of all to swallow, because it was all a frame-up against gun owners and the Second Amendment. And right now, the only hope of getting the truth out about all of this is you.
Senator Charles Grassley (IA) and Representative Darrell Issa (CA) are defending our Second Amendment rights and fighting for justice for Agent Terry by holding Congressional hearings on Fast and Furious.
But they're being stonewalled by Obama, Holder and others who are bent on sweeping the truth under the rug.
They are withholding government documents that say exactly who ordered the operations. Government e-mails warn witnesses not to cooperate. Congressional subpoenas are being ignored.
This conspiracy has exploded beyond an attack on our firearm freedoms into a full-blown threat to the rule of law at the very foundation of our government.
If you want to help NRA protect our Right to Keep and Bear Arms, our freedoms and our country from corrupt government officials, then I need you to take action today:
When Attorney General Holder was questioned by Senator Charles Grassley about how guns that were allowed to "walk" out of gun shops during Operation Fast and Furious ended up at a U.S. Border Patrol Agent's murder scene, Holder said, "I frankly don't know."
That one statement from our nation's top law-enforcement official cuts right to the heart of the matter and proves that Holder is either covering up for Obama, his failed gun control schemes and the crimes committed, or he's incompetent.
Either way, he can't be trusted with the powers of Attorney General, the law enforcement agencies he commands, the sanctity of the Second Amendment, or the lives of Federal agents.
As Attorney General, he's supposed to enforce the laws that protect American citizens, not cover-up corrupt schemes that threaten our nation.
And when they made the Mexican drug crime crisis a battle about our guns and our freedoms, they made this NRA's fight, and your fight.
That's why NRA is launching a nationwide campaign to gather hundreds of thousands of signatures on this Petition to Fire Eric Holder, one of the chief architects of Obama's gun ban agenda.
And I'm turning to you to help lead this fight by signing our National Petition to Fire Eric Holder.
Sign the Petition
Together, we will hound Obama and Holder to come clean and surrender all relevant and uncensored documents on Operation Fast and Furious to Congressional investigators. We and all Americans deserve the truth. We will call for the removal of Eric Holder from his cabinet post. And, if Obama fails to fire him, NRA will hammer away and remind the public that crimes have been committed. And with your donation, we will force Obama to carry that weight throughout next year's election.

PresBo Lied During Twitter Town Hall

The historic Twitter Townhall is over, and PresBo lied at least once during his long answers to short questions.

The question was what mistakes did he make handling the recession, and PresBo made the following claim:
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20077259-503544.html
"Even I didn't realize the magnitude -- because most economists didn't realize the magnitude -- of the recession until" we were well into it, Mr. Obama said. He added that "setting people's expectations is part of how you respond well."

This claim is disengenious at best, and an outright lie at worst.

Does anybody except me remember PresBo, when he was trying to convince everybody that his massive stimulus package was a good idea, making the following statement?
"A failure to act, and act now, will turn crisis into a catastrophe and guarantee a longer recession, a less robust recovery, and a more uncertain future."

PresBo also said (in February of 2009) that a failure to pass his stimulus bill would turn the recession into a "catastrophe from which we might never recover."

Now think about this. If he didn't realize how bad the recession was, then why did he claim we might never recover from it? Was that just political rhetoric (i.e. a lie) to convince people to support his excessive and useless stimulus package?

There's a lie in here, guys... Today he told us he didn't realize how bad the recession was, but back then he was predicting the end of our nation as we know it.

Doesn't anybody except me hold this guy to the truth? This was an obvious lie, people... do we just label it "politics as usual" and ignore it?

I hope not...

Improve your swing without even trying...its all in the ball

The game of golf does not impress me as it does others...for one thing every time that I've been to a driving range the ball seems to go wherever it wants regardless of my stance or swing.  I don't know of anybody that wants the ball to turn to the right or left halfway down the fairway but for me this is what happens.  I guess I just don't practice enough and anything that takes lots of practice begins to get boring before the desired outcome is met.  So along comes an innovator that redesigns that little white monster with additional dimples on it's surface.  Somehow these added little indentations improves the aero dynamics such that you now you are in control...check it out on the video below:

On Media, On War
Gentle readers, in my drive to bring you the best global journalism, I’m handing over LoD to Ali K.Chishti.
Ali has appeared twice at LoD now and he likely will fill in for me if I have to take an extended assignment (and he’s available!).
Take it away, Ali …

These have been some of the craziest months in Pakistan.
It started on May 1, when Osama Bin Laden was killed in one of our military towns — which is like the West Point of Pakistan – Abbotabad.
Then there were the PNS Mehran attacks. And, only recently, the killing of a dear friend and fellow journalist Syed Saleem Shahzad.
On the other side of the border in Afghanistan, 271 ISAF/NATO forces – including 191 US soldiers – have been killed as of now in 2011. There were 711 killed in 2010. The total causalities to date have been 2,552, of whom 1,637 have been Americans.
The news here is that the US is seriously engaged in what U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates calls “initial talks” with the Taliban. Pakistan, which has given refuge to Islamabad’s so-called “strategic assets” — aka Mullah Omar and the Haqqanis — feels uneasy with any sort of direct U.S. talks with the Taliban.
One of the “Cousin Haqqanis” from Lower Kurram Agency in our semi-autonomous FATA region recently left the Tahreek-e-Taliban-e-Pakistan, or TTP, who are considered “bad Taliban” by the Pakistani security leaders.
The splinter group reformed into something called Tahreek-e-Taliban-e-Pakistan Islam, which made them “good Taliban” to Islamabad.
Lower Kurram is the new headquarters of the Haqqanis due to its strategic importance of launching attacks on at least three provinces within Afghanistan. The new group opposes suicide bombings in Pakistan, but considers “infidels” in Afghanistan fair game.
And there’s history to this argument. During the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, Pakistan made it clear to the Americans that any “distribution network” or aid for Afghan Mujahideens would go through Pakistan. Pakistan used and abused this power when spreading aid to the Pashtuns through hubs like Lower Kurram.
Only recently, Pakistani defense minister Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar – not known for mincing his words — said “We know where the Taliban are – our religious parties have links with them. And without Pakistan, there can be no solution to the Afghanistan problem.”
Operation Enduring Freedom originally had two objectives: a) Eliminate al-Qaida in Afghanistan and b) Never allow Afghanistan to be used as a safe heaven for terrorists.
The first point, ending al– Qaida, is almost complete. It remains a dysfunctional organization. Osama Bin Laden and countless numbers of top– and mid-level operatives have been killed, mostly thanks to the predator attacks inside FATA.
The second point of never allowing terrorist groups safe havens remains a problem. But the safe haven has moved from Afghanistan to FATA, especially to North Waziristan, where the Pakistani Army is reluctant to take any action despite pressure from NATO and ISAF.
One needs to understand the security establishment of Pakistan. It’s inherently opposed to anyone who wants to hunt Pakistanis. Look at al Qaida and TTP. Pakistan’s record of cooperation with the U.S. has been called “excellent” by some, but that’s merely because both these organizations orchestrated attacks on Pakistanis, too.
Pakistan has stabbed the U.S. and other coalition forces in their backs when it comes to the Quetta Shura and the Haqqani network. The Haqqanis have been loyal to Pakistan and have never attacked Pakistani interests. That’s why they’re provided sanctuaries inside Pakistan. From there, they’ve launched attacks against NATO and ISAF forces in Afghanistan.
This security doctrine, which is commonly referred to as “Strategic Depth,” has little to do with the U.S. It is India-centric. But that’s not unusual. The whole security doctrine of Pakistan is geared toward fighting India, should it invade Pakistan. Pakistan concentrates its armed forces on its eastern front, not the western. To Islamabad, a pro-Pakistan government in Kabul would keep Pakistan’s interests secure on its western front and free up forces for the east.
Obviously, the strategic geniuses in Pakistan’s Pentagon — the GHQ — forget some vital points: a) India has grown up and is way ahead of Pakistan now; and, b) Pakistan’s top threat is no longer its neighbors but rather its self-created jihadi proxies which have turned against their masters.
So, what are the U.S. options for Pakistan, Afghanistan and the region?
President Barack Obama’s cut in troop numbers is “mere optics.” This seems to be little more than some happy points for the next election. It would have been better for the U.S. to actually concentrate on the real issues bedeviling Afghanistan, which is to say: a) Pakistan b) Pakistan and c) Pakistan.
Pakistan has successfully destabilized the whole region and, in doing so, also itself. A proper U.S. policy of dealing with Pakistan needs to be devised because the current one is not working.
The talks with the Taliban – which are part of a legitimate insurgency and which have constituents – need to speed up. I personally think the U.S. should have talked directly to the Taliban instead of going through Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
Although talks are a good means to end the war, one needs to understand that when dealing with Pashtuns you should always have an upper hand. The U.S. should intensify the drone attacks inside FATA. The end game might be to kill either Mullah Omar or Siraj Haqqani, which would guarantee — much like the killing of bin Laden — a sort of moral and psychological victory.
Al Qaida no longer is the biggest threat to U.S. national security, but rather the TTP, the terrorists behind the failed Manhattan car bombing and the successful CIA forward station attack.
During my interview with U.S. Army LtGen. William B. Caldwell, he came across as a smart and ambitious man. While development of the Afghan troops and police remains a good idea – it remains an idea, only. With such huge troop numbers in Afghanistan, the U.S. economy is bleeding.
Without an infrastructure, state institutions and tax networks in Afghanistan, how can the U.S. seriously continue to spend billions per year in Afghanistan to support the Afghan Security Forces we know Kabul will never sustain? The answer is clear: There has to be a realistic policy on this issue.
In the end, Afghanistan is a “death trap.” It’s bleeding the U.S. and your NATO and ISAF allies. A quick end must include all stakeholders, including the Taliban militias on one side and all the regional players — Iran, Russia, the Central Asian republics, China, Turkey, Pakistan and India – on the other.
Your goal should be to keep Kabul and Afghanistan free from a dominating influence by any one of these countries. For that, the U.S. likely will need to have permanent bases, like those in Qatar, inside Afghanistan for the long haul.

I do have one quibble, James.
Actually (and factually) the biggest threat to U.S. national security is Barack Husein Obama and his radical left wing supporters. But you are absolutely right about China and Russia sitting on the sidelines awaiting the next opportunity to weaken us.
Most people do not have an understanding of Russia's long term goals...they want to be the dominate force in the United Nations an organization they use to further those goals. Most people think that Ronald Reagan won the Cold War by breaking up the Soviet Union when really the Russians won a long sought after increase in their UN representation. When the UN was founded Russia wanted all her states to have voting rights...she got her way by simply tearing down a wall, just look at the Soviet Block representation today as compared to the years prior to Reagan.

Ali, If you are simply referring to the last two months as "crazy", perhaps you are forgetting how angry the US has made Pakistanis in the last year. Or did you forget how the US killed Pakistani soldiers on the Afghan border in October? Or the CIA operative let free in April in exchange for blood money to the two Pakistani citizens he murdered? Maybe you just have a short-term memory. The weather in Karachi is rather safe is it not?

Understanding Your Elected Officials

The notion that your elected representative is working on your behalf is somewhat sinister because no matter who he or she is, Democrat or Republican, they are in it for themselves...the constituent be damned!  Until such time as they obey the Constitution as it was written the system (the government) will continue to fall apart.  Remember, it wasn't you that broke the system, it was the guy you voted for...so when are you going to smarten up and stop electing idiots?

By the way, he speaks the truth...the guy in the video!

The Obama Legacy...but we knew this would happen (at least some of us did)

Dictator Of The Month

Dictator of the Month: King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia
This is an excerpt from a lengthier article which can be found here

JUSTICE SAUDI STYLE—According to Amnesty International, police in Saudi Arabia routinely use torture to extract “confessions.” The accused are held in incommunicado detention until after they have been interrogated and often until after they have confessed. Even then, they are not allowed to discuss their case with visitors. If, in court, a defendant renounces his confession, he is returned to prison for more sessions of “interrogation.” A noteworthy case from 2004 illustrates Saudi practices. The authorities arrested twelve nonviolent dissidents for holding a public gathering in favor of establishing a constitutional monarchy. All twelve confessed, but in court three of them, university professors Abdullah al-Hamid and Matrouok al-Falih and poet Ali al-Damaini, renounced their confessions. One of their lawyers was imprisoned without charge after he spoke about the case on television. At the beginning, the trial was public, but then the doors were shut and it was held in secret. The defendants were sentenced to six to nine years in prison.
FLOGGING AND OTHER PUNISHMENTS—The Saudi authorities have something of an obsession with flogging, which is imposed for a variety of transgressions, including alcohol-related offences and traffic violations. The record for the most lashes imposed on a prisoner is 4,750, for having sex with his wife’s sister. Although it is not known if he survived, his wife’s sister got sixty-five lashes as well, even though she was the one who reported the incident. Teenage boys are publicly flogged for talking to a young woman or whistling at one. There have been incidents of floggings being announced through public address systems at shopping malls to give shoppers a chance to watch. In March 2001, a military officer was given twenty lashes for using a mobile phone during a flight. Flogging victims can be suspended with chains and lashed with a flexible metal cable.
As awful as flogging is, it is mild in comparison to Saudi punishments for more serious crimes. A convicted thief can have his right hand cut off, while highway robbers are punished by cross-amputation, the loping off of their right hand and their left foot. Then there is Qisas (retaliation) punishment which means an eye for an eye—literally. In 2000, for example, an Egyptian national was convicted in Medina of throwing acid in the face of another Egyptian and damaging his left eye. The guilty party, Abdel Moti Abdel Rahman Mohammad, was sentenced to forcible removal of his left eye.
WOMEN: NOT SEEN, NOT HEARD—In Saudi Arabia, a woman cannot appear in public with a man who is not a relative, cannot travel without a male relative’s
permission, cannot drive and cannot work with men. In court, a woman’s testimony is equal to half that of a man and, whereas a man can divorce his wife by just saying so, it is almost impossible for a woman to divorce her husband. Women are required to completely cover their bodies in public and they must wear veils. Ibn Baz, a famous Grand Mufti, forbid women to wear high heels. “The wearing of high heels,” he decreed, “is impermissible because it may lead the woman to fall…and it shows the stature of the woman and her behind more prominently.” Some Saudi women have expressed satisfaction with the restrictions in their country. However, from the point of view of human rights, the problem is that those Saudi women who would like to live a freer life have no choice. The strict suppression of women is not voluntary, but obligatory.
Domestic violence against women is deeply rooted in tradition. Ibn Saud, a national hero, was notorious for his physical abuse of slaves, servants, concubines, and wives. The issue finally surfaced publicly in April 2004 when a well-known television presenter, April Rania al-Baz, was beaten by her husband because she answered the telephone. He dumped her unconscious at a hospital, where she was discovered to have thirteen facial fractures. Because she was famous, her husband was imprisoned and she was able to obtain a divorce and retain custody of her two sons. Unfortunately, her case is the exception, and most beaten wives have no choice but to suffer abuse.
The Mutawa’een religious police are on constant patrol, watching for transgressions of the rules of sexual segregation. One particularly shocking case occurred in Mecca on March 11, 2002. A fire broke out in a girls’ school. As the girls rushed out the building, the Mutawa’een forced them back inside because they were not wearing headscarves and because they were not accompanied by male relatives. When male bystanders tried to enter the school to save the girls, the Mutawa’een stopped them because they were not relatives. In the end, fifteen girls died because of the intervention of the religious police.
FOREIGN WORKERS—The Saudi royal family has, for decades, imported foreigners to do unpleasant jobs. Yemenis serve as servants and street sweepers; Thai women as nannies; Filipino men as waiters; Korean men as construction workers; and Somalis, Ethiopians, Indians, and Sri Lankans as servants and manual laborers. These foreigners, particularly those women who work inside private homes, are subject to physical abuse and sexual violence. Eighty percent of prison inmates in Saudi Arabia are non-Saudis and about half of those prisoners who are executed are foreign nationals.
BASIC FREEDOMS—It almost goes without saying that in Saudi Arabia freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, and freedom of religion are nonexistent. All Saudi citizens are required by law to be Muslims. In 2004, Brian O’Connor, a Christian citizen of India, was beaten and deported for owning a Bible and other Christian literature. It is illegal for schools to teach Western philosophy or religion other than Islam, and classrooms are monitored by informers.
The Ministry of Information, created in 1982, has the right to license, restrict, and close all newspapers. The Supreme Information Council, created in 1981, monitors books, magazines, movies, and other media. All radio and television stations are owned by the government, and censorship is so extreme that statistics on automobile accidents are kept out of the media because they might be construed as a criticism of the king or the government. Even sermons in mosques are pre-censored. The Saudi royal family would not allow the Internet into the country until 1999, and all web sites are banned until they have been individually approved. All phone calls are recorded and in 2004 the government banned mobile phones with cameras. In September 2004, they passed a law prohibiting public employees from “engaging in dialogue with local and foreign media.”
The highlight of Saudi Arabia’s struggle with the issue of human rights took place in October 2003 when the government actually hosted an international human rights conference. Hundreds of Saudis took advantage of this unusual occurrence to stage a public protest. They were all arrested. About eighty of the protestors were held for several months and others were flogged.
Ibn Saud kept control of the people he conquered through a combination of force of arms, intermarriage with more than thirty tribes, and the imposition of Wahhabism, which transcended and disempowered tribal hierarchies. He and his successors viewed nepotism and corruption as natural methods of wealth distribution. Later, the Saudi royal family used their oil profits to buy the loyalty of the population by providing free education and health care and subsidized services. When the world demand for oil has stagnated and Saudi profits have dropped, dissent has grown. But with the demand for oil growing, particularly in China, the Saudi royal family has regained the power and influence that their wealth can buy.
