Maine-built sailing vessel sinks off Nantucket
PORTLAND, Maine - The Coast Guard says a three-masted sailing vessel built in Maine to accommodate people with disabilities has sunk off Nantucket.
Coast Guard Petty Officer James Rhodes says RawFaith went down at 7:30 a.m. today, a day after two people aboard the ship were pulled from the ocean into a rescue helicopter.
The 88-foot ship built in the style of a 16th-century galleon started taking on water off Nantucket in rough seas, and the two occupants reported they were in trouble on Monday.
RawFaith has seen its share of problems.
The Coast Guard ordered improvements after it became disabled in a gale in 2004 and it had to be towed to Rockland, Maine.
Two years later, it lost its masts in another storm off Maine's Mount Desert Rock
