Washington, DC – Secret documents leaked from inside the Department of Defense reveal that House speaker Nancy Pelosi has made repeated requests to the military for her travel plans. The leaked documents outline correspondences between Pelosi’s offices and Air force travel agents indicating the speaker made requests far outside the normal dispensation made for congressional leaders including requests for high end aircraft and repeated last minute cancellations, leading to many just plain upset at her diva behaviour.
The documents were uncovered by Judicial Watch, the ultra conservative Washington Lobby group, which receives most of its funding from other ultra-conservative foundations, most of which are owned by billionaire newspaper publisher Richard Mellon Scaife. Pelosi has been a particular target for conservative groups, even those claiming bi-partisanship, largely because of her ultra left wing partisanship.
“Taken together, these documents show that Speaker Pelosi treats the Air Force like her personal airline,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “Not only does Speaker Pelosi issue unreasonable requests for military travel, but her office seems unconcerned about wasting taxpayer money with last-minute cancellations and other demands.”
Among other requests Pelosi apparently made was travel on a G5, essentially a small luxury plane, and after being denied reportedly stamped her feet and walked out of the room. Pelosi has been hit by similar criticism in the past, in particular a request in 2007 for a new plane that would not have to stop to be refuelled.
“I want an aircraft that will reach California,” Pelosi said in 2007 “I don’t care what kind of plane it is as long as it can fly nonstop to my home district.”
Pelosi’s home district is San Francisco, 2800 miles from Washington, a trip only aircraft capable of intercontinental flights are able to make nonstop, all of which of course are much more expensive.
“All members of congress are afforded trips to their home district on military aircraft and have been since 9/11 but it seems like Pelosi is the only one who is complaining about the service she is receiving. Of course Pelosi is the most powerful woman in the history of The United States, third in line to the Presidency, and so maybe she does deserve a little more regard then just normal members of congress,” said Scrape TV Political analyst Gabriel Kinsey. “Being in that position though she does hold high regard in the eyes of the American people and I’m sure most of them will be more than happy to spend their tax dollars on giving her the absolute best flying experience possible. American families may not have much money right now, but if anything is going to pull them out of this crisis its spending money on excesses and luckily Pelosi is there to remind them of that.”
Pelosi’s office has denied any inappropriate usage of military equipment or last minute cancellations. They have also denied talk of other inappropriate conduct while on cross country flights.
“It’s really spurious and sexist to suggest that kind of thing, and that wouldn’t happen if she were a man. Of course she would probably be less of a diva if she were a man as well and this discussion may not be happening at all,” continued Kinsey. “Besides, I mean really. She may have been attractive twenty, thirty, maybe forty years ago but now not so much. These guys are in the military, not stupid.”
It’s not clear if Pelosi’s requests have had any negative impact on the war on terror, though expectations are that someone will try to find such an occurrence.
“If they can somehow link her requests to maybe soldiers dying in Iraq then her career could really be in trouble. At the very least the morale of the people involved has to be low,” continued Kinsey. “I don’t imagine any pilot or crew members will be doing anything but grumbling when they get that call to transport Pelosi, especially if she’s in one of her moods.”
