We’re right! They’re wrong! End of story! - Where have I heard that before?

We’re right! They’re wrong! End of story!
To those of you who listen to Andrew Wilkow over satellite radio those words are familiar. Mr. Wilkow presents a very compelling program on channel 125 XM-Sirius radio every weekday from 12 to 3 P.M. ET. (I listen whenever I’m driving anywhere in my vehicle.)
In reference to the article below, I just happen to be on the road while Andrew was giving his spiel on General Electric (GE)…and a great spiel it was! (Wish I could remember word for word. It’s good material for a speech and/or just chattering around the water cooler.) In any event, I’ve made some personal observations here by connecting the dots to the chart I have pasted below the Washington Times article.
If you note that General Electric has spent less in Lobbying expenses in 2009 than in previous years (even though the year is not over), there is good reason for that. Why do they need to spend another dime when they got what they wanted…the 111th Congress and Obama!
And why do they need them? Both GE and Obama & Company are all on the same page when it comes to universal health care; a conspiracy? You bet! It’s all a part of this New World Order that I’ve been harping about for the last umpteen years. (Speaking of which… I recently returned from a trip to Texas visiting friends and family. My good friend John, whom I haven’t seen for quite awhile, reminded me over lunch by saying, “Norm, remember when you use to talk about the one world government [and that was in the late 1970’s!]. Well I didn’t believe you then. But dang! You were right on the money!”)
Back to GE…What’s in it for them (“them”, I said…and not you!)? This universal health care business is just that! Business! Business for GE (and of course Obama & company) They could care less about you except for the fact that you will be the one paying for the most expensive health care ever to come down the pike.
Without getting into all the details (I’ll leave that for Andrew), GE stands to make a fortune in health care related issues…especially when it comes to medical equipment made by…guess who? And who do you suppose is going to computerize all those millions of medical records? Ah, now you’re getting the picture.
So what is GE going to do with all that lobbying money they have set aside? They no longer have to bribe Obama & company for they’re all in it together. What you are going to witness in the next few months is millions of dollars spent on advertizing. That’s right, advertising just to convince you as to where they’re going with all this. Watch for a huge increase in advertising on all GE owned television stations and wherever else they can blow a few million. This advertising should consist of everything health related; medicines/drugs, medical equipment, and maybe even some sort of consulting and/or legal services. Tune in and watch the ads! – Norman E. WILKOW/ RIZZUTO: GE a corporate sponsor
Andrew Wilkow and Nick Rizzuto
COMMENTARY:
For all of the carping liberals did for eight years about corporate cronyism in George W. Bush's White House, they seem to turn a blind eye to the same behavior in President Obama's. With plans in place for a major overhaul in the health-care industry, General Electric is positioning itself to become a major beneficiary of these health care reforms.
Recently at the Business and Social Responsibility Conference, General Electric Chief Executive Officer Jeff Immelt referred to America's current economic crisis as part of a "reset" rather than part of an economic cycle, saying, "People who understand that will prosper in the future, and people who don't understand that will get left behind."
In the same address, Mr. Immelt, who is also a member of Mr. Obama's economic recovery advisory board, added, "The intersection of government and business will be changed, maybe for a generation." In other words, companies should be prepared to beg for a seat at the government's table if they plan on remaining lucrative.
Imagine that on the eve of the Iraq war, the CEO of Halliburton had declared that since Sept. 11, 2001, the relationship between the government and corporate interests have become one in the same.
Of course, Mr. Immelt's rhetoric about corporate responsibility was undercut last year when GE's once vaunted financial services business, GE Capital, was forced to ask the government for what amounted to a $140 billion government bailout.
Mr. Immelt's words betray GE's willingness to partner with the Obama government in order to turn a profit. To this end, GE has appointed Mr. Obama's former nominee for secretary of health and human services, Tom Daschle, to the board of advisers for Healthymagination, an initiative launched by General Electric in partnership along with Intel, which will invest $6 billion over the next six years on "health care innovation that will help deliver better care to more people at lower cost."
Mr. Daschle said, "We can only find real solutions in health care when business, government and their partners work together."
In 2008, Mr. Daschle wrote the book "Critical: What We Can Do About the Health-Care Crisis" in which he explains his radical solutions to the problems in American health care. In the book, Mr. Daschle calls for a British-style Federal Council on health care.
The profitability of GE's new venture will depend heavily on the nationalization of the health care industry. The standardization and streamlining of health care recordkeeping, something on which Mr. Obama ran in 2008, would require a massive government contract for the technology to achieve such standardization.
Mr. Obama has introduced a plan to computerize all health records within five years. Independent studies from Harvard, Rand Corp. and the Commonwealth Fund have estimated that such a plan could cost at least $75 billion to $100 billion over the next 10 years. Healthymagination is readying just such a technology, claiming that they will seek to "increase the use and capability of electronic medical record (EMR) technology and other information technology." With Mr. Obama's ally Mr. Daschle on board, Healthymagination is sure to have more than a leg up on its competition when it comes time to dole out these massive contracts.
Under the cloak of corporate responsibility, General Electric seeks to benefit to the tune of billions from the passage of Mr. Obama's health care reform. On its corporate Web site, Healthymagination admits it will use every tool at its disposal to achieve its goals, including NBC Universal, the parent company of MSNBC which offers nearly uncritical coverage of Mr. Obama and his policies.
In effect, NBC Universal would become the propaganda arm of the administrations drive for the nationalization of health care, pushing its passage in its print and television properties.
Healthymagination states its target dates for the completion of its various initiatives as 2015, well into a second Obama term. This means GE will have a deep financial interest in Mr. Obama's re-election; a fact that will no doubt be reflected in its media divisions. It will certainly be interesting to see if the left-wing watchdogs howl, or if they will conclude this is an acceptable level of collusion between the White House and a multinational conglomerate.

Alan Keyes is certainly one of America's great heroes. It was a sad time in our history that just a few short months ago the main stream media did not give the same publicity to this former presidentail candidate than it did the 'traitor from within' now in the White House. To U.S. Senator Russ Feingold

Regarding Senate Bill 787

You have been elected by the people of the State of Wisconsin to serve your constituency. Since when does making a law to turn over our waterways to the Federal Government serve the people of our state?! Furthermore, all residents and industry throughout the Midwest U.S. could be jeopardized and penalized by this law.

We, the People of Wisconsin, believe in States Rights and the rights of voters in our elections to be responsibly represented by public officials in Washington who represent and respect our local interests – which this bill clearly does not do!

If you proceed with this hazardous legislation, you can expect that We the People will spread the word of your betrayal of our trust to all voters in Wisconsin and to all fellow residents throughout the Midwest. There was a time we respected your diligence and trusted your representation. There was even a time many in Wisconsin considered you fit for even higher office. Any movement forward on S 787 will demonstrate your negligence of the needs of the population you have been sworn to represent.

We have a right to expect our Senator to represent our interests. Stop S 787 Now!

Yours truly

(A __________(Your state) resident and voter)

Disgraced Former U.N. Official Welcomed at High-Level U.N. Conference

Tuesday , May 12, 2009 By George Russell

FC1

On July 31, 2008, Guido Bertucci, the top official in a U.N. department charged with promoting good governance around the world, retired in disgrace.

An internal U.N. investigation found that he committed "gross negligence" in handling a $2.8 million trust fund donated by the Greek government, and suggested that Bertucci might be held "personally accountable and financially liable" for the misspent funds, many of which went for purposes unrelated to the intended project.

Secretary General Ban Ki-moon handed the Bertucci case over to a U.N. disciplinary committee just two days before Bertucci's retirement — too late to do anything that would affect his retirement or his pension.

Confronted by FOX News at the time, Bertucci maintained he had done nothing wrong.

Now, it seems, the U.N. apparently doesn't think so either. Bertucci has been welcomed back by the world organization as an invited top-level expert at a high-profile conference in Seoul, South Korea, on "Building Our Humanitarian Planet."

The conference was jointly sponsored by the U.N. Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), which includes the branch of the U.N. bureaucracy where Bertucci used to preside, and whose head was Bertucci's boss.

The conference, dubbed World Civic Forum 2009, was co-sponsored by South Korea's Kyung Hee University. It was intended as the international kickoff of a new drive by UNDESA to build support among universities and other civil institutions for the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals, which aim to cut world poverty and increase efforts at halting climate change.

Among those attending the opening ceremonies was Han Seung-soo, Prime Minister of South Korea — meaning that the conference was a very high level occurrence on U.N. Secretary General Ban's home turf. (Before taking over at the U.N., Ban served as South Korea's foreign minister.)

Bertucci's role in "Building Our Humanitarian Planet" was widely advertised in the conference program as the chairman of two workshop sessions on "Empowering Civil Society: The Role of Public Administration."

Click here to see the conference program.

The program did not mention Bertucci's new credential as a public administration expert: he is executive director of Governance Solutions International, described on one networking website as a New York-based firm involved in "non-profit organization management."

In one of the conference sessions, which a FOX News camera crew attended, Bertucci made a presentation touting locally administered forestry preservation projects in developing countries to prevent climate change.

Sitting nearby during that session was Roberto Villareal, a senior official of the Division of Public Administration and Development Management (DPADM), the office Bertucci used to head during the lengthy investigation of the Greek trust fund scandal.

• Click here to see video of Bertucci at the conference.

Among those also attending the conference was Sha Zukang, the U.N.'s undersecretary general for UNDESA, who was formerly Bertucci's boss. On this occasion, he represented UNDESA as the conference's major global sponsor.

Click here to see Sha's conference role.

Sha is acutely aware of the charges against Bertucci: the report containing them lingered on his desk for weeks after an 18-month investigation by the U.N.'s watchdog Office of Internal Oversight Services, without any action on Sha's part, before being taken up by Secretary General Ban during the last days of Bertucci's official career.

Indeed, another recommendation of the report was that Sha's department repay $34,000 in wrongly awarded contracts to consultants wrongly assigned by Bertucci — just a small fraction of the funds allegedly misspent in the scandal. There is no evidence that DESA ever acted on the recommendation.

Neither U.N. Secretary General Ban's office nor the office of DESA Undersecretary General Sha responded to a lengthy list of questions from FOX News about Bertucci's presence at the conference.

Among the questions: who invited him, the role of DESA and DPADM in selecting him as an expert, and whether his role in the Greek scandal was discussed before he was invited.

Bertucci's sudden renaissance at an important conference sponsored by his former boss is only the latest mystery surrounding the last years of Bertucci's career, which included several years of stymied, delayed and sidelined investigations into the Greek project scandal, preceded by even more years of unavailing Greek government complaints about DPADM's handling of its money.

Perhaps the biggest mystery of all is the U.N. tolerance for Bertucci's failings — or at least, a deep unwillingness to act on them — even after Secretary General Ban took office on Jan. 1, 2007, after promising to hold U.N. civil servants to "the highest standards of professionalism and integrity."

By that time, Bertucci's involvement in a project known as the United Nations Thessaloniki Center (UNTC) for Public Service Professionalism had been a matter of public controversy for at least three years. Funded with Greek money, it was intended to strengthen public administration in various Balkan countries, and help to reduce corruption.

But by 2003, the Greeks were already demanding an investigation of the way the first $1.1 million of their money had been spent. Their complaints deepened during 2004 and 2005, as the Athens government insisted that it could see nothing being accomplished. U.N. auditors looked into the matter in May 2006, and discovered "indicators of irregularities," — but nothing happened.

Finally, in April, 2007, FOX News revealed that U.N. watchdogs had been appealing to Sha's predecessor as head of DESA to quit rejecting the auditors' recommendations that the U.N. assign responsibility for the situation. That official retired that year and, in effect, tossed the whole problem on to Sha.

Sha began delaying matters himself, as the investigative report on Bertucci continued to sit on his desk.

In fact, even Secretary General Ban's eventual referral of Bertucci for disciplinary action could be considered part of the stalling game. The U.N. customarily never pursues actions against employees who have left the organization, and their retirement pensions are considered sacrosanct, no matter what they have done.

Ban's tardy referral of Bertucci's case meant that he could continue to pay lip service to the notion of enforcing high ethical standards, without having to do anything significant about it, at least in Bertucci's case.

All of which raises the intriguing question: what is so special about Guido Bertucci that his tarnished presence continues to be welcome, even at the highest levels of the U.N., and even on the Secretary General's home turf?

It is a question those high level officials are so far not answering.

George Russell is executive editor of FOX News.

Time to Renounce the United Nations?

by Rep. Ron Paul, MD

Our anticipated war in Iraq has been condemned by many around the world for the worst of all reasons: namely, that America is acting without United Nations approval. The obvious implication is that an invasion of Iraq is illegitimate without such approval, but magically becomes legitimate when UN bureaucrats grant their blessing. Most Americans rightfully resent this arrogant attitude toward our national sovereignty and don’t care what the UN thinks about our war plans. Perhaps our heritage as a nation of people who do not take kindly to being told what to do is intact. Still, only the most ardent war hawks connected with the administration have begun to discuss complete withdrawal from the UN. I have advocated this for twenty years, and have introduced legislation to that effect.

The administration deserves some credit for asserting that we will go to war unilaterally if necessary, without UN authorization. But it sends a mixed message by doing everything it can to obtain such authorization. Efforts to build a “coalition” through the promise of billions in foreign aid dollars only reinforce the perception that we’re trying to buy support for the war. The message seems to be that the UN is credible when we control it and it does what we want, but lacks all credibility when it refuses to do our bidding. The bizarre irony is while we may act unilaterally in Iraq, the very justification for our invasion is that we are enforcing UN resolutions!

Our current situation in Iraq shows that we cannot allow U.S. national security to become a matter of international consensus. We don’t need UN permission to go to war; only Congress can declare war under the Constitution. The Constitution does not permit the delegation of congressional duties to international bodies. It’s bad enough when Congress relinquishes its warmaking authority to the President, but disastrous if we relinquish it to international bureaucrats who don’t care about America.

Those bureaucrats are not satisfied by meddling only in international disputes, however. The UN increasingly wants to influence our domestic environmental, trade, labor, tax, and gun laws. Its global planners fully intend to expand the UN into a true world government, complete with taxes, courts, and a standing army. This is not an alarmist statement; these facts are readily promoted on the UN’s own website. UN planners do not care about national sovereignty; in fact they are actively hostile to it. They correctly view it as an obstacle to their plans. They simply aren’t interested in our Constitution and republican form of government.

The choice is very clear: we either follow the Constitution or submit to UN global governance. American national sovereignty cannot survive if we allow our domestic laws to be crafted by an international body. This needs to be stated publicly more often. If we continue down the UN path, America as we know it will cease to exist.

Noted constitutional scholar Herb Titus has thoroughly researched the United Nations and its purported “authority.” Titus explains that the UN Charter is not a treaty at all, but rather a blueprint for supranational government that directly violates the Constitution. As such, the Charter is neither politically nor legally binding upon the American people or government. The UN has no authority to make “laws” that bind American citizens, because it does not derive its powers from the consent of the American people. We need to stop speaking of UN resolutions and edicts as if they represented legitimate laws or treaties. They do not.

The UN is neither wise nor neutral. All of the member nations have national interests that don’t simply disappear when their representatives enter the UN general assembly hall. Like any government or quasi-government body, the UN is rife with corruption and backroom deals. Worst of all, it serves as a forum for rampant anti-Americanism. Perhaps the time has finally come when more Americans will choose to rethink our participation.

S 787 - Obama to control water...that's all water! Including yours!

In February I posted an article that concerned the government's control of land (Senate Bill S22) where it stated such harsh measures as confiscating one's vehicle if they so much as picked up a rock from federal land. "In the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009, a "forfeiture" provision would let the government confiscate "all vehicles and equipment of any person" who digs up or removes a rock or a bone from federal land that meets the bill's broad definition of "paleontological resource," says a report by Jon Berlau of the Competitive Enterprise Institute. (link) "

And now it's the water! All water! What you see here is just the beginning...things will get worse! (I even predicted the food shortage scare when Obama moved into the White House! It will happen! ...and watch those food prices soar!) The following is cross-posted from Maggie's Notebook . Thanks Maggie. - Norman E. Hooben

Water, Water Everywhere and Obama Controls it All?

I was doing a post on the plight of Israel in 1967 when surrounding Arab countries were attempting to divert Israel's irrigation water. That water was a key player in the start of the 1967 War. No country can survive healthily without crop water. Along comes an email with a link to American Daughter's post on the Obama administration's move to control ALL American water. That's ALL American water.

Water - Your Pond?
WATERS OF THE UNITED STATES- The term ‘waters of the United States’ means all waters subject to the ebb and flow of the tide, the territorial seas, and all interstate and intrastate waters and their tributaries, including lakes, rivers, streams (including intermittent streams), mudflats, sandflats, wetlands, sloughs, prairie potholes, wet meadows, playa lakes, natural ponds, and all impoundments of the foregoing, to the fullest extent that these waters, or activities affecting these waters, are subject to the legislative power of Congress under the Constitution.
Senate Bill 787 is known as the Clean Water Restoration Act. OpenCongress.org says it seeks to amend the Federal Water Pollution Control Act to clarify the jurisdiction of the United States over the waters of the United States - which is a change from jurisdiction over only the "navigable waters" of the United States.

GovTrack has introductory statement about s.787 from Senator Feingold, who says that this bill exempts agriculture. Senator Wyden (D-OR) says he is "no supporter of Federal water grabs." Well, that got my attention...I mean he put it right out there. He says he would not have co-sponsored this bill if he thought it would affect Oregon farmers. Both Feingold and Wyden say that the intent of the legislation is to restore the Clean Water Act "to what it had been before these Supreme Court decisions."

So what about "those" Supreme Court decisions? There's this from Wyden:
Some people do not like the pre-2001 Clean Water Act regulatory system. Some believe that the Supreme Court did the right thing by removing many wetlands and intermittent streams and lakes from the protections of the Clean Water Act.
By now, you know that California farmers in the Central Valley are losing their farmland and their livelihood due to a two-inch minnow, the Delta Smelt. The government has taken the water from the farmers and given it to the minnow. What do you do when the gov'mt owns your pond - the pond your cattle drinks from and cools-off in, or the water in the fish-hatchery you own, or....

Senate Bill s.787 is not about the Delta Smelt, but the Delta Smelt is just one current and critical bit of evidence that proves what the government can do to us, if we allow it. Yes, you can put this off on the environmental "greenies" but, the governing body is "the government."

As usual, we do not know the intent behind the bill, but changing the designation of the original waters as set out in the original Clean Water Act of numerous years ago, from "navigable waters," to "water of the United States," which includes ALL waters, is a bit of a jump, and I just wonder why the government feels it necessary to control ALL of America's waters.

Before you go to American Daughter to read about Senate Bill s.787, innocuously named the Clean Water Restoration Act, watch this important video about a government-made drought.

Hat tip to Allan Erickson.
