Merkel holds integration summit

German Chancellor Angela Merkel

Chancellor Angela Merkel met Wednesday with more than 100 senior politicians and representatives of immigrant groups to discuss integration in Germany - in the wake of a bad-tempered and divisive debate over Muslims and multi-culturalism.

Around 120 people attended the integration summit at Merkel’s Berlin office, including ministers, state premiers, business leaders, and ethnic minority groups.

Merkel herself declared explicitly last month that multi-culturalism had “utterly failed” in Germany, as the country was wracked by a debate on integration, particularly by Muslims.

That uncharacteristically outspoken statement came after widespread political condemnation - but also some public support - for the former Bundesbank board member Thilo Sarrazin.

Mr. Sarrazin, a former Social Democrat (SPD) politician, wrote a book Deutschland Schafft Sich Ab (Germany Does Away With Itself) complaining that Muslim immigrants made little effort to adopt to the German way of life, and were heavily dependent on welfare.

Mr. Sarrazin was forced to resign from the Bundesbank, but the debate he ignited still rumbles on in Germany.

Issues at Wednesday’s summit were to include recent government initiatives compelling immigrants to attend integration courses, as well as the decision to categorize forced marriage as a specific criminal offence.

Ms. Merkel wants to establish a national plan of action within the next 12 months, setting clear goals relating to education and training, German language skills and employment rates of people from a migrant background.

The Federal Statistics Office says that about 16 million people living in Germany have a “migrant background,” or just under 20 per cent of the population.

Of these, an estimated 4 million people are Muslims. The majority of these are of Turkish origin, after a guest worker programme encouraged manual labourers to Germany in the 1960s-70s.

Last month Ms. Merkel said the concept of multiculturalism, in which ethnic groups lived side by side, had “utterly failed,” and said immigrants must do more to learn the German language, laws and values.

Ahead of Wednesday’s meeting, Merkel’s integration commissioner Maria Boehmer said too many children of migrant background were not completing their schooling, and often spoke insufficient German when they reached school age.

Germany’s ageing population has led to a shortage of skilled workers, creating a demand for foreign labour.

In 2006, after meeting with Pope Benedict XVI, German Chancellor Angela Merkel made the case for “Christian values” in the European Union Constitution. Now her criticism of multiculturalism is causing an international stir.
The problem with multiculturalism, as the pope understands, is that it breeds contempt for the moral truths that under gird the Judeo-Christian ethos of Western civilization. Indeed, as the pope has said, it has led to “a peculiar Western self-hatred that is nothing short of pathological.”
One major reason why multiculturalism is a failure is its implicit moral relativism: all religions and cultures are seen as equals. But this means that those who adhere to Judeo-Christian values, and those who espouse a preference for Sharia law, are voicing a similar perspective. This is worse than nonsense: the former yields liberty and justice; the latter yields slavery.

While the above story brings me a bit of hope that America will soon wake up to the fact that the current regime running the show in Washington, D.C. has but one agenda; control... control over the individual by means of Sharia law.  I say its a bit of hope, for when I hear the die-hards (both Democrats and Republicans) still believe in some unfounded theory that is undeniably a conspiracy.  What is truly amazing is the fact that all die-hard Democrats cannot see the forest because of the trees.  Every Democrat controlled city or state has failed miserably...and if it hasn't already failed, they continue to throw money at it until it does... heck, just look at Detroit or California!... or anywhere where there is high unemployment! 
The Sharia law reference above may be new to some folks but one thing that it has in common with all the power brokers (Obama, Clinton, Soros, Brzezinski [you might want to check that Brzinski link] etc.), they do not believe in a Diety that is supernatural.  The human being is the highest form of inteligence (Secular Humanism) and they will accept any god that comes along evolutionary chain such as Allah.  How dare they believe in a God who became man through an Immaculate Conception...its not in their vocabulary!  This is worse than nonsense (now where did we read that line before?) ~ Norman E. The Chicago Sun-Times has compiled a list of domestic bombings since 1886. Included in the list are two by Bill Ayers’ former group, the Weather Underground. Ayers and his fellow former terrorist wife, Bernardine Dohrn, are close friends of President Obama, who did not call yesterday’s Boston Marathon bombings as acts of terror.
Reports coming in from Boston are describing the deadly bombs as devices similar to the Weather Underground nail bomb that exploded prematurely in 1970, killing three of Ayers’ terrorist friends. That device was intended to be detonated at a soldiers’ dance at Fort Dix, New Jersey.”

 

At this point I could care less who wrote the book, listen to the line in the beginning concerning revolutions "...most of the time, most of the people are not doing anything."  Truly, that is the case today, no one is doing anything while Obama and his cronies take advantage of a do-nothing society. ~ Norman E. Early in 2009, in discussing one of the early warning signs of the enslaving aim of Obama's health-care takeover, I wrote:

But it must be increasingly evident to all but the most stubbornly blind among us that government control of the banks and the healthcare system is only the first stage in the imposition of complete government control of every aspect of our economic lives. In service to this aim, the Obama faction moves to bankrupt the nation, so that none will have the wherewithal and will to resist their coup d'état. Today, they move to make all healthcare workers slaves in conscience to the state. Soon and very soon, this shall be the fate of us all. Our soldiers and police are being trained and will be required to move against the right to keep and bear arms, born of our unalienable right to preserve and defend the innocent lives of others. Our pastors, rabbis, and other religious leaders will be required to surrender the right to live according to their beliefs whenever their free exercise of religion runs counter to the demands of "gay pride," the selfish-esteem of homosexuals; or the anti-religious bigotry of atheists who cannot bear to hear the prayers of others.
