Chinook helicopter rescues Navy Seals .... a rerely seen perspective: A video of a U.S. Navy Seal extraction which was filmed inside an MH-47 Chinook helicopter. The pilot has lowered the ramp, dipped the tail end into the water to partially flood the compartment (a maneuver that requires quite precise flying) and awaits Navy Seals to board in their F470 Zodiac.
You just got to love the skill of our military...

Hot Damn .. These Young ones make us PROUD!!!
ReplyDeleteNot to take away from the troops performing this exercise, but...
ReplyDeleteThis is an ARMY MH-47, with an ARMY crew. There is no extraordinary flying skills required to toodle around flat water with a Chinook. That's why ONE of the nicknames is the "Boat". Basically you do a normal hover landing, but to water, and you take the blade pitch to what we call 3 degree detent. This is a stop in the pitch control that keeps the blades at a slight positive pitch. Then the Hook can be driven around the water with the normal cyclic/pedal controls.
Lastly the pilot doesn't lower the ramp. The flight engineer in the rear does.
How do I know about this stuff? 2000+ hours as a flight engineer/crew chief in Viet Nam and stateside.
God Bless Our Troops.
