Dear Majority Leader McConnell, Minority Leader Reid, Speaker Ryan, and Minority Leader Pelosi:
We are strongly opposed to the Administration’s plans to admit at least 10,000 Syrian refugees during the current fiscal year, and to increase the number of refugees accepted by the U.S. to at least 100,000 next year.
These tens of thousands of refugees are having a devastating impact across Europe and worldwide. The areas holding these refugees have seen an increase in rape, theft, gang activity, intimidation, and organized crime. The German media is now reporting that thousands of these refugees have disappeared and are now in Germany – unaccounted for.
Many of the “refugees” are neither Syrian nor refugees. Many do not even speak Arabic, cannot tell you where they came from in Syria, and have no official documents. They make up their own names and there is no way to accurately vet them. They are Afghans fleeing the Taliban; Eritreans fleeing their own repressive government; and many more hail from Iraq, Pakistan, and sub-Saharan Africa.
Top U.S. law enforcement and security officials have cautioned Congress on the terror risks linked to the Syrian refugees. Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson has acknowledged that background checks are not flawless and that “there is no risk-free process” to vet these individuals.
The chaos overseas is but a foreshadowing of what will take place in our nation, if our government is foolish enough to follow suit.
In addition, there are serious financial implications connected with allowing the refugees to enter the United States. Resettlement for one Middle Eastern refugee costs the American taxpayers an estimated $64,370 over the first 5 years, 12 times the UN estimate for caring for one refugee in a neighboring Middle Eastern country. Further, 91 percent of Middle Eastern refugees receive food stamps and 68 percent receive cash assistance.
Allowing any Syrian refugees entry to the U.S. at this time is unacceptable to us. We remind you that the federal government has no greater mission than to provide for the common defense of our Republic and its citizens. We are a compassionate nation, but our elected leaders must protect and serve those they were elected to represent before extending an open hand to the rest of the world.
Our nation is neither equipped nor prepared to handle these refugees and we are strongly opposed to any policies allowing them into our communities.
We will be watching to see how you will address this issue during the coming days and we will hold our elected officials accountable for their actions.
Sincerely, { Note: Please click here to sign this petition.  Thank you. }
