We make law!

This (see video below) may be considered a powerful speech in the eyes (and ears) of the Congress who it is addressed to but it says nothing about what it should be saying...which I'll get to in a moment.  The standing ovation is nothing more than the members of Congress patting themselves on the back for something that each and everyone of them wishes they had said.  It also tries to convey the message that the House of Representatives has some semblance of power not recognized by the would be dictator in the White House whereas the Congress has as much power as the president and yet they fail to use it.   I take issue with Mr. Gowdy about a minute and twelve seconds into his tirade where he says, "We know that the president can refuse to defend the constitutionality of a statute, even one that he signs into law."   Mr. Gowdy is a lawyer, I am not...but where in the Constitution does it allow the president to violate his oath of office? (“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”)  While taking the oath is a prerequisite of becoming president and is a pact (or an appeal) with a Deity which cannot be broken unless the two parties agree (the two parties to the oath would be the oath taker and the Deity and I don't believe any such Deity, be it God or Allah, has been negotiating with Obama).  I don't see a footnote to the word 'defend' in the oath where the president can 'refuse to defend' therefor he must defend!  With that said, no man is above the law...the president must defend the Constitution.  If no man (or woman) is above the law and as such breaks the law, is the law breaker not punished?  Incarcerated?
While the Constitution has procedures for impeaching a president it says nothing about arresting a law-breaking president.  So Mr. Gowdy I would suggest that you call the Sergeant at Arms over at the U.S. Senate and have the law-breaker arrested...and then you may start impeachment proceedings!  Get the criminal off the streets! (Note: The Sergeant at Arms is authorized to arrest and detain any person violating Senate rules, including the President of the United States.) ~ Norman E. Hooben
