What can be said but WOW!

There must be hundreds of thousands of stories like that packed away in memories, closets and archives, soon to be lost because those that recall have passed on or soon will.

Based on the quality of the picture my guess is that it was filmed with a 16mm camera...probably government issue.
Although 8mm cameras were common among the civilian population, I don't think many were available during that time frame. Also, the fact that it was in color, another rarity for the civilian market, most likely was government issue. The average GI could just afford cigarettes in those days...color film was kind of pricy and considered a luxury item until after the war.

Talking 'bout things stashed away for years...
A few years ago (2008 or 2009) the daughter (or was it grandaughter) of Alistair Cooke found his manuscript ready for publication that was completed in 1942. Needless to say, it was published immediatedly and was the most interesting book I've ever read about Americans during the early days of world war II...The book's title is "The American Home Front: 1941-1942"...really great book!
